In an age of instant gratification
we preach to teach patience
wait your turn, look around
share with a friend, don’t be so wound
In the same vein, we practice
go fetch it all, because, why not
it’s a competitive world, win the first prize
second just won’t suffice
this constant conflict we put them through
is cross pollination & convenient teaching, in my view
Choose a path
Sprint or marathon
if you pick the latter,
then a second or last will more than suffice
for, so much more is building inside
much more than what meets the eye
so much more than what can be quantified.

My daughter had her soccer tournament this past weekend and her team lost in the semifinals. Granted she’s only 6 but the loss stung her pretty bad. Processing a loss is any ways a hard thing but for a six year old, who’s big time into glittery stuff, it especially hurts when it results in forgoing a shiny tall trophy.
Nevertheless, we went all out celebrating her medal :). SO MUCH MORE. This was my husband’s conscious decision and I agreed. We felt she gained SO MUCH MORE with this loss and therefore a bigger celebration was warranted. I know it’s a tiny step but I hope to continue on this right path of teaching.
awww!! Losing to another team can be painful. Your daughter is blessed to have such great parents celebrating her in good and difficult times.

Another beautiful poem and great lesson to teach your daughter, Pallavi ❤️. When we have an attitude of scarcity it rubs off on our kids. And when we know what is right for us, we sometimes have to stick with it against our own human nature. Thank you for sharing!

Soccer tournaments are intense, especially for the parents. Been part of a large number of them myself. There’s always next year.

So happy for your daughter, she has amazing parents! You are wonderful; it is very important for a child to know that it is okay to lose/fail and her being loved is not dependent on her success.
Beautiful poem 💕

By far the most important lesson to be given to the kids, not to fear failure as it is the process which needs to be celebrated.
Great parents, great lesson !! Congratulations to you all 👍

Amen. Children benefit greatly when we model and exemplify godly behavior through the wins and losses of life. I pray His blessing upon you and your husband as you impart God’s love and character to your family. ♥

Great poetry. Yes, perseverance furthers, not convenience. ‘De-schooling Society’ by Ivan Illich, might be found interesting on the subject; for rote and regurgitation of memorized info. can never replace fostering curiosity, natural learning- which becomes lifelong learning, i.m.h.o.. Also, schools underfunding requirements determine, what kids already know, naturally, is drilled out of them; negatively effecting their school experiences and accomplishments- the Montessori teaching methods come to mind. Thanx for all you do; have a good eve’ 🙂 reality

I do love Montessori teaching. De-schooling is a very neat concept. The rat race we are signing up our kids for will only result in them being that. I honestly want my kids to fail because I want them to overcome the fear of trying. More often than not it’s the fear of failures than failures itself
which come in between us and our success.

Indeed, kids are groomed, programmed to be small corp agents, and instilled with a similar bottom line increasing mentality. We can do so much better by our kids; thanx to great conversations like the ones you start, etc.. ‘Til next, be well 🙂 reality
